I am truly grateful and I appreciate all the work he has done for our school district." "I've always been impressed by the level of commitment Dr. Zega has always been committed to our students, parents, teachers, staff and Board members," Anderson said. Crowe went on to become principal at Woodbine Elementary School and currently serves as principal at Woodbridge Middle School.Īnderson recognized Zega midway through Thursday's Board meeting prior to the announcement of Massimino's appointment. Anderson said that Zega is "so committed" that he has "offered to help with the transition of new Superintendent." Previously, Zega had been serving as the assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction but moved into the interim superintendent position when then-Superintendent John Crowe resigned as superintendent and Assistant Superintendent Lois Rotella retired as news of the state Department of Education investigation into cheating at various township schools was coming to light. Zega, who said during Thursday's meeting that he was "not retiring," was appointed superintendent in December 2013 after serving as Interim Superintendent for five months. Massimino replaces Robert Zega, a longtime district employee and alumnus of district schools. Five board members voted in favor of the appointment. Four Board of Education members abstained from the roll call vote after Board of Education attorney Jonathan Busch said any member who is "conflicted," should abstain on the matter. The new superintendent contract stipulates a five-year term through June 30, 2026.
